Granny’s Buttermilk Cake

Granny’s Buttermilk Cake

It might sound strange but you just have to make Granny's Buttermilk Cake! It's our family's most favorite dessert and you just won't believe how easy to make and delicious this cake is!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Step 1

Make cake according to the directions on the back of the box in a 9 x 13 pan.

Once it cools, poke holes in the cake using the end of the handle of a round wooden spoon.

  2. Step 2

In a 3 quart sauce pan bring to a boil butter, sugar, and buttermilk. Let it boil for about 3 minutes, turn heat off and add vanilla and baking soda. Continue stirring the whole time, the baking soda will "poof" up but don't worry, it's fine.

Once everything is well combined, pour this mixture over the cake and let it soak down into the holes.

Serve it immediately nice and warm, store it in the refrigerator and I enjoy the leftovers cold but you can reheat each piece in the microwave if you like.
