Christmas Crack
All is takes is 4 simple pantry staple ingredients and you can make a delicious toffee treat! It's a great base to build on using all kinds of festive toppings to make this dessert truly your own creation. And speaking of a base to build on - in the video me and my daughter Maddie experimented with 4 different "cracker" bases and lots of different toppings. So this is truly just the basic recipe here to get you started.
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil that has been sprayed with nonstick spray.
-
Step 2
Line the baking sheet with saltine crackers.
-
Step 3
In a saucepan, combine the butter and sugar over medium heat. Bring it to a rolling boil, stirring the entire time, and cook it for 3 minutes. It will turn a brown color. After 3 minutes immediately pour the mixture over the saltines in the baking sheet. Spread the mixture with a knife to pretty much cover the crackers, but don't worry it will spread more as it bakes.
-
Step 4
Bake for 8 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips and gently spread the chocolate as it melts, or if you're using melted almond bark pour it over the top and spread evenly. If you want to dress it up now is the time to sprinkle on your favorite toppings. Place in the freezer or fridge for about 15 minutes or until it is set.
-
Step 5
Once it's hardened, let it sit on the counter for about 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a cutting board, peel off the parchment or foil and break or "Crack" it into pieces.
Store this in an airtight container and it will stay fresh for about 2 weeks.

This is an old recipe that was handed down from a friend at church but I found all the different decorating variations from I Heart Naptime
